Gerard enjoys playing his berimbau and – possibly recalling the mournful voice of CA's "oscillator" – bought a theremin, which he meddles with now and again (it can be heard in action on "Theme From Cultural Amnesia"). He bought a Yamaha wind synthesiser (WX5-VL70), which is probably his ideal instrument – but he doesn't practise (it features on a number of tracks, "Product Chunk Funk", "During Their Fit During", "I Heard It On The Radio", et al.). He is now intent on introducing the lemellaphone into the Amnesiotic oeufvre. Once CA's principal keyboardist (I suppose), he still dreams of electric organs. The only instrument that he can be said to have any competence on these days is the first he, and many other children, took lessons in, the recorder, for whose peculiarly sweet tone he has great affection. In the early '80s he developed a glissando technique that resulted, in conjunction with the WEM Copicat, in a kind of keening and twittering sound that can be heard to good effect on tracks such as "Green Cage Cabaret" and the instrumental, "Dance", the latter very flatteringly described by a YouTube listener as “Supremely beautiful – my favourite cassette track”. His recorder (a sopranino) was last employed on “Dummyface”. GG, Revised 13/09/26
