Conceived and executed by

"Conceived and executed by" Cultural Amnesia. This slightly "highfalutin" form of words is CA's preferred one to round off credits on releases and other productions before the assertion of copyright. It's a good phrase for a DIY band, which CA have significantly remained beyond our cassette culture origins. For although we have largely released through labels, almost all preparation of the music for releases, including all mixing (now John's area of expertise), and all artwork (largely handled by Ben with idea input from John and Gerard), with the exception of the cassette album Sinclair's Luck (designed by John Balance with the assistance of Peter Christopherson), have been handled by the band. And whilst we had John Balance to, with great flair, do most of our publicity in the early years (Datenverarbeitung also did a considerable amount of promotion for the two CA cassette albums the label released), the promotion of our post-reformation releases, including the work to secure reviews, has been handled "in-band". Sometimes one dreams of release through a company that would do some work to get reviews, interviews, features, etc., but there is little doubt that it will continue as it has, and in terms of the music and artwork, we would not have it any other way. I once heard a teacher use the phrase and that is its origin. GG, 25/09/26
